November 3, 2017

These days there are tons of different blogging platforms to choose from.

However, even with so many different platforms that you can use I’m sure that you’ve heard from many different bloggers that it’s WordPress that you should be using.

You might be asking yourself: “Why use WordPress”?

In this post I want to share with you some of the best reasons why you should be using WordPress for blogging and running your website.

There is a reason why millions of people are using it as their content management system, or CMS – basically how you run your blog from the backend.

Despite its popularity I still see people recommending some of the many WordPress alternatives and today I want to go over why it’s the best blogging platform and why you’re going to want to start your blog using a self-hosted version WordPress.

Alright, let’s just jump right into it!

The 9 Best Reasons Why You Should Be Using WordPress

It’s Super Popular

There’s no arguing that WordPress is the most popular content management system and blogging platform in the world.

More than 25% of every website on the internet is run using WordPress and it’s popular with beginners, advanced users, and even global corporations.

Its popularity in the blogging world means that there are a lot of benefits to using WordPress which I’m going to cover a little bit further down in this post.

Thanks to its popularity there is always help available for whatever problems that you might run into, there are thousands of themes to choose from, and there are a seemingly endless amount of plugins available that you can use to get your website to do whatever you want.

With how many people are using and familiar with WordPress it really can’t be beat when it comes to starting your own blogging journey.

It’s Really Easy to Use

One of the main reasons why WordPress is so popular is because it’s really easy to use right out of the box.

The main interface, or dashboard, is very user-friendly, intuitive, and after just a few minutes of starting a blog you’ll have a pretty good idea of how to post new content, install a new theme,  change some basic settings, or add some new plugins.

All of this can be done without having to know any coding and unless you run into a serious problem you never need to pay for any support or hire a professional to get something done.

With the platform being so popular there are tons of tutorials and helpful guides that you can take advantage of to set up your blog or website any way that you want.

Not surprisingly WordPress was actually designed for people without any coding experience or “tech-savvy” to be able to use.

Once you have it installed you just need to worry about posting content, organizing your widgets, choosing a theme – stuff like that.

Every so often you’ll need to update something but otherwise it’s an amazing platform that’s perfectly suited for total beginners and internet noobs!

Heaps of Plugins and Themes

When you’re using WordPress you can choose from thousands of different plugins and themes that are easily installed onto your blog or website.

With these tools you can customize the functionality or appearance of your blog and this gives you plenty of flexibility regardless of what you’re hoping to achieve.

There is a plugin for just about anything you feel like doing with your blog and even if you can’t find a theme you like you can easily find someone that’s willing to design one for you from scratch.

The amount of customization available makes it a great choice for anyone looking to add their own touches and personality to their blog.

The Community is Really Helpful

Another one of the results of the popularity of WordPress is that there is a large community behind it.

This community is active, knowledgeable, and you can find people willing to offer their support everywhere online from dedicated forums and blogs to YouTube channels and even Reddit.

It’s really easy to connect with other people using the platform and whenever you have an issue or any questions on how to use WordPress or one of its features there’s always going to be somebody there able to help you out.

Affordable

Anybody looking to start a blog on a budget is going to be much better off starting out with WordPress rather than any of the alternatives.

This is definitely the best free blogging platform out there and if you’re not interested in paying for a dedicated hosting plan or you just can’t afford it then you can still take advantage of the WordPress.com platform.

Even with a hosting plan there aren’t any monthly or yearly costs associated with using WordPress.

There are so many different free themes and plugins to choose from and you can easily get your own blog up and running for just a few dollars each month.

It’s hard to go wrong using such an awesome platform with such low monthly costs.

The Platform is Search Engine Friendly

There are a lot of problems that you can run into if you’re using a different platform other than WordPress and trying to take full advantage of SEO.

Right out of the box WordPress gives you some great optimization capabilities that can help your blog or website show up higher in search engines and even help you get more clicks from the results pages.

It’s easy to install plugins that can help you out with SEO, such as Yoast, and you can effortlessly optimize your content even more for better overall rankings.

None of the other platforms make it is easy to take advantage of search engine optimization so for those of us looking to rank our blogs and enjoy some free search engine traffic WordPress is where it’s at.

The Platform is Mobile Friendly (Responsive)

With so many people browsing blogs and websites on their smartphone these days it’s more important than ever before to have a blog that’s design for mobile use.

This is actually known as “responsiveness” and most of the different WordPress themes come equipped with this “responsive” feature.

This means that you don’t need to know any coding or have any special skills to get your website user-friendly for those using smartphones or mobile devices.

Having a responsive blog or website is also going to help you out in search engine rankings while improving the experience of your visitors.

Security Features for your Protection

security for your blog

With a fresh installation WordPress already comes with a few different security features to help protect your blog from hackers and spammers.

On a regular basis there are updates provided that continually help to improve security and keep your content and blog protected from any newly discovered vulnerabilities.

Getting hacked is something that nobody wants to experience so as long as you’re updating regularly and keeping an eye on your blog then it’s very unlikely to happen to you when you’re using WordPress.

There are even some security plugins that you can install for even more protection – ones like Wordfence Security.

These plugins can add an additional layer of security to your blog or website and further protected from any malicious intent.

Some of the other blogging platforms are a lot more susceptible to hacking and spam so if blog security is something that concerns you then of course you’re going to want to take advantage of the WordPress platform for your blogging needs.

It’s Becoming the Perfect Blogging Platform

Having been out for more than 10 years already WordPress has been able to secure its place as one of the best blogging platforms available.

Many of the kinks and problems with the platform have been solved and worked out over the years with the new updates focusing on increasing speed, adding new features, and improving security.

It’s rare that the platform ever goes down and actually having used it for a few years now I don’t think that WordPress has ever gone down – just the hosting plan behind my own blogs.

With so much time in the game you can tell that it’s a platform that many people like and that also provides a lot of benefit to with users.

Otherwise, if this weren’t the case, you would find people like me recommending other platforms.

Final Thoughts

There you have it!

Those are some of the best reasons why you should be using WordPress, even if you’re just using the free blogging platform that offers.

It comes packed with so many different features, it’s really easy to use, and there are a ton of options for customization so I would have a hard time personally recommending that you use any other platform.

A lot of times when you’re reading about blogging online the writers are going to be referring to WordPress in their content and if you’re using a different platform you’re going to essentially be on your own with whatever it is you’re hoping to accomplish.

None of the other platforms come with as much helpful support, there aren’t nearly as many different plugins and themes, and you’re going to be on your own for solving problems that you run into.

I’ve covered a lot of different aspects of using WordPress here on my blog and hopefully by now you’re convinced that it’s the best platform for your blogging needs!

As always, thanks for reading and if you have any questions or concerns please let me know down in the comment below.
