As someone that spends a lot of time working exclusively on their laptop it’s important to me to be able to get my work done comfortably and in an ergonomic position.
A few years ago, after spending about 2 years using just my laptop for working, I began to experience some pain in my wrists and neck.
At the time I didn’t realize what the problem was but eventually I determined that I was getting really sore from hunching over in my laptop for hours on end.
It was at that point that I began to hunt for the best laptop stand that I could use for traveling with and I eventually settled on the Nexstand K2.
I tried out quite a few other stands but the Nexstand K2 met all of my requirements – it’s durable, reasonably priced, lightweight, well-designed, and able to easily support my MacBook Pro.
To be honest, I think it’s the best Roost alternative, and even if you’re not on a budget the Nexstand K2 is one of the top options if you’re looking for the best cheap laptop stand as well.
I’ve been using mine for about a year-and-a-half by now so I wanted to go ahead and right an in-depth Nexstand K2 review so you can get a better idea of what to expect if you’re looking for a portable laptop stand and this is one that you’re considering.
For most people I find that the K2 is going to meet all of your laptop stand requirements and if you’re in the market for a new one then I would definitely recommend taking a look at the Nexstand K2 whenever you get a chance.
Alright, let’s just dive into the review!
Nexstand K2 Laptop Stand Review
In this review I’m going to be looking at the Nexstand K2 based on a variety of different metrics and sharing my thoughts about them.
These metrics are going to include:
- Portability (weight and size)
- Comparison to alternatives
I’m a huge fan of the design and build quality of the Nexstand K2.
It’s made from an industrial-grade reinforced nylon and it feels like a very sturdy hard plastic when you’re using it.
Holding everything together are metal fittings so you’re not relying on a weaker plastic material to keep everything together when you’re using it with your laptop.
According to the website the Nexstand K2 can hold laptops up to 20 pounds and you can use it with any laptop that’s bigger than 11.6-inches.
For MacBook Pros and most MacBook computers it’s a suitable stand and you can easily use it with any other laptop as long as it isn’t too thick to fit into the holding clips.
The grips that you slide your laptop into come equipped with these anti-skid caps to help keep your laptop in place and to prevent the grips from scratching the bottom.
The longer part of the stand that keeps your device upright also comes equipped with anti-skid pads so once your laptop is properly set-up you really don’t have to worry about it moving around.
The feet at the base of the stand are also skid-free and barely move around when your laptop is in the stand and you’re getting some work done.
Of course the stand might slide a tiny bit on a flat surface if you happen to accidentally knock it with your keyboard or something but it’s definitely not going to slide around or fall over from just a light bump.
Not only can the Nexstand K2 hold up to 20 pounds but it can also be adjusted into a different positions depending on how you’re sitting and how you want your screen to be positioned.
This is ideal for comfort and ergonomics so that you can set everything up however you prefer.
Despite boasting a very simple design the Nexstand K2 is put together quite well, it’s very sturdy regardless of where you’re working, and it’s a great choice to use if you’re looking for a laptop stand that you can travel with.
Portability (Weight and Size)
Another reason why I settled on the Nexstand K2 was because of how lightweight and easy to travel with it is.
The total weight of the K2 is just 8 ounces and this means I can easily toss it into my backpack or suitcase without having it take up very much space at all.
When it’s opened up it can support my laptop but when it’s folded down it’s only a mere 14-inches in length and barely 1.5-inches in width and depth.
A lot of the different laptop stands that I used weren’t nearly as portable and ended up being surprisingly heavy so when I eventually stumbled onto the Nexstand K2 I knew that it was perfectly designed for traveling with and that it was a great choice for digital nomads.
To make it even easier to travel with and to protect it from bumping around when it’s in your luggage the K2 comes with a nylon carrying sleeve.
In complete honesty it’s pretty easy to lose the carrying sleeve so make sure to keep a close eye on it when you’re not using it.
Thanks to how lightweight and portable the K2 stand is it’s really easy to use it in a variety of different locations whether you’re at the airport hoping to get some blogging done or at your local cafe looking to edit some photos.
The first thing I do whenever I get to a new apartment is set up my laptop stand and computer gear right away – it’s really easy to unfold the stand and set everything up in just a few minutes.
For those of you on a budget the cost of the Nexstand K2 might seem pretty attractive, especially when you consider the competition.
I personally picked up my K2 for just $30 and you can definitely find it online for not much more than that.
Some of the other laptop stands can easily cost upwards of $80 to $100 depending on the model and this is pretty expensive considering what you get.
The Nexstand K2 is a no-frills piece of equipment but it comes with everything you need to work on your laptop in a much more ergonomic fashion.
The reasonable cost of this stand means that even if you have to replace it every year, which you hopefully don’t, it’s still a very affordable item.
Even if you’re not on a budget I would still recommend checking out the K2 because you really do got a lot of quality, durability, and great features for such a reasonable price.
Comparison to Alternatives (Nexstand K2 vs Roost)
One of the main competitors to the Nexstand K2 is the ever-so-popular Roost Laptop Stand.
Originally I picked up the Roost to use myself but thankfully one of my friends told me about the K2 so the Nexstand is what I ended up going with in the long run.
Looking at the two different laptop stands it’s easy to see how similar they are with their overall shape and design.
Considering both of them serve the same purpose and both have really good reviews online I would of course have to recommend going with the more affordable option – the Nexstand.
One reason why you might want to pick up Roost is because it is actually made in the United States and it’s slightly smaller in weight and design.
Otherwise, if you’re willing to sacrifice a few ounces and you don’t mind having the K2 take up an extra half inch of space then you’re going to be better off with the Nexstand K2.
Nexstand K2 Review: The Best Laptop Stand?
For those of you spending a lot of time working on your laptop you’re definitely going to want to try to make sure that everything is setup as ergonomically as possible.
This is going to help you avoid running into health problems and pain in the long run and you’re likely going to be a lot more productive if you’re comfortable while you’re getting work done rather than hunched over your laptop for hours at a time.
If you’re mostly working at home then you have a lot more flexibility when it comes to choosing a laptop stand but if you’re traveling a lot and moving between different locations then you want something portable, lightweight, and durable enough for you to use on a regular basis.
In this case I would wholeheartedly recommended the Nexstand K2 laptop stand and in my opinion it’s one of the best laptop stands for travel, digital nomads, and anybody working online in different places.
Of course you’re going to want to pair the stand with a dedicated mouse and keyboard so I’ll get into my recommendations for those in a later post.
You don’t have to spend a ton of money getting your own ergonomic and portable digital nomad travel setup and I don’t think you’ll regret having one either.
So, with that in mind, if you want to be comfortable while you’re working and a lot more productive when you’re trying to get work done away from your home office then I would definitely recommend checking out the Nexstand K2 and considering adding it to your arsenal.
