Why I’m Sharing My Income
With it being the new year and all I figure a lot of people are going to be starting their own blogs.
Of course, people are going to come out of the woodwork and complain about how unrealistic and unfair income reports are.
Personally, I find that income reports can be helpful and super motivating for most people. I started my own blog back in the day after reading various income reports. They help to show that making money blogging is possible. For beginning bloggers this might be all they need to take their first steps into the blogging world.
With my own income reports one of my main goals is to be completely transparent. This way my audience can get a better idea of how I make money. They can also implement similar strategies and hopefully make money with their own blog using the tactics that I share.
It also helps to keep me on track so that I can see which areas of monetization I’m doing well with and where I need to improve.
Feel free to check out my previous income reports:
Now that that’s out of the way let’s just jump right into it!
December 2017 Income Report Overview
Last month, in my November income report, I shared with you guys that I was able to make a nifty $256 in my second month of blogging.
I was happy with these earnings and I think this is a reasonable amount for most people to be able to earn within their first few months of getting started.
Just to remind you, my goal with this blog is to take it to $10,000 per month. This averages out to around $333 per day over a 30-day period.
I don’t find this amount to be outrageous. I believe that if I put in the work I’ll definitely be able to achieve this goal sooner or later.
If you’re willing to give it a try, you could achieve a lofty goal like this as well!
I spent a lot of December traveling. Ultimately, I didn’t spend too much time working on my blog.
On the 16th my girlfriend and I made our way to London. I was in London for 4 days and then in Paris for another 4 days.
This didn’t leave much time to get work done with everything else I have on my plate. All of the traveling I did along with the Christmas holidays took a bite out of how much I was able to achieve.
Looking back at it, I don’t regret spending so little time on this blog. I plan on taking full advantage of all the time I have in January so you’ll see a lot of growth in the next income report.
Anyways, let’s take a look to see what I was still able to accomplish in December!
In December I only put out 5 blog posts. From the middle of the month I didn’t work on anything new at all.
Most of the posts that I did end up writing were in-depth and provided a lot of information about the specific topic I covered.
I also worked quite a bit on an email series with many of the emails coming in at more than one thousand words in length.
Like I mentioned in my last income report, the more content you have the easier it is to drive more traffic. As I move forward in 2018 I’ll be focusing on creating as much content as possible to set myself up for success in the long run.
Since I don’t have much going on this January I’m going to set a high goal for myself. By the end of the month I hope to have written 20 new blog posts for this blog. Let’s see how it turns out!
I saw an improvement in December traffic compared to November. This was surprising to me considering that I didn’t do much promotion for half of the month.
It goes to show that taking advantage of SEO is a great way to drive traffic to your blog passively. Otherwise, I would have had to spend a lot of time promoting my posts on Facebook.
As I move forward with my blog I hope to rely more on traffic from search engines. Eventually, I want the bulk of my traffic to be coming from SEO with the rest split up between different social media platforms.
For the month of December I received 1739 views.
This is 614 more than I received in November. Again, I’m surprised by the Improvement as I barely posted anything new and didn’t do much promotion at all.
I recommend taking a look at my post on driving traffic with Facebook groups. This is going to give you a better idea of the different strategies and tactics I use on getting traffic with Facebook.
In January I want to continue to grow my different social platforms. I can see Pinterest working well in the future so I will be focusing a lot of my effort on that.
As always, SEO will continue to work in the background while I create new content and spend time on social media.
So far my traffic isn’t anything spectacular. I’m happy to have gotten nearly two thousand views in my third month of blogging.
My Income for December 2017
- Shameless request: Head on over to Facebook and join my blogging group – The Blogging Den!
So here’s what I know you’ve all been waiting for!
Let’s take a look at how much money I actually made with his blog in December.
Although I’m happy with what I earned I’m positive I could have earned more. The trade-off is that I got to spend some time traveling and enjoying the holidays. I wasn’t worrying about what was going on with my blog.
At the moment I don’t have any of my own products for sale. This is something going to be focusing on in January. I hope to come up with something to offer by the end of the month.
I was surprised to see that my services did well this month. This is another area of my blog that I’m going to improve on and start taking more advantage of.
Here’s the numbers you’re looking for:
This month the affiliate income I earned was just through these three different affiliate programs.
All of the KWFinder commissions were earned through my how to find profitable keywords post.
I made a few sales on Amazon with their affiliate program this month. These sales were made through my Nexstand Review post.
- Content Writing: $140
- SEO Services: $75
I was surprised to have actually learned quite a bit through my services this month.
A few people reached out to me for content writing. I ended up writing 4 different blog posts for individuals that needed help creating content.
I actually enjoy working with other bloggers so offering my services is a fun way to get to know people in the industry.
I already have a few more people interested in my content and this is going to continue to be an income stream for me in January.
As for my SEO services, another blogger reached out and needed help optimizing their website. It wasn’t a lot of work and they didn’t require long-term support on a monthly basis.
My offer of $75 to help them out was a fair exchange for the both of us.
Services are a great way to monetize your blog. Beginners can take advantage of this monetization strategy. It’s an effective way to make some extra money each month even if you don’t have that much traffic.
- Take a look at my services page if there’s anything you need help with.
In my third month of blogging I was able to earn $442.40.
For some people this might not be that much but I’m proud with what I’ve been able to achieve in such a short period of time.
This is almost double what I made in my second month and it’s more than I’ve made in my first two months combined.
I expect to see my income continue to increase every month as long as I keep posting new content and getting more traffic.
Like I mentioned before, anybody can make money blogging if they’re willing to put in the work. You just need to set aside a few hours each week to write and promote. As long as you’re using the right monetization strategies and getting visitors to your blog and there’s no reason why you can’t start earning money right away.
The most important thing that you can do is to actually get started. Nothing is going to happen if you don’t take the first few steps on your own blogging journey.
I recommend heading over to my post on how to start a blog. This will help you get your own blog up and running. The rest of my content will be here to help you get traffic and monetize everything.
That’s all I’ve got for you today!
I can’t wait to share with you guys my income report next month. Hopefully I’ll have a lot more content up on my blog and some higher earnings to go along with that.
As always, thanks for reading! If you have any comments or questions feel free to let me know down in the comments or just email me directly.
